Interview: Dre P (VH1's Tool Academy 2)

Dre P – Not Just a Tool

I got the chance to have a talk with VH1 Tool Academy 2 cast member Dre P and discuss his background, his experience on Tool Academy, and his future plans. I truly enjoyed chatting with the Toledo, OH native and learned that he is far from a tool and has quite an impressive resume – in music! Yes this VH1 heartthrob was a hard working rapper before the show, and upon his return he got back to his grind like he never left. Dre P is a young, humble, multi-talented man ready to make big things happen! Check him out:

You were a bit of a local celebrity before you appeared on VH1. What were you doing before you were cast on Tool Academy 2?

Well I’ve been running a company called Fly Guy Entertainment. I’ve been doing music since 2003, and while doing that we also threw the hottest parties and events in the city.

We’ll get back to the music because you have an impressive rap sheet. So what brought you to Tool Academy?

I’ve dipped in film a little here and there. I actually auditioned for I Love New York 2 and made it pretty far so I’m not a stranger to castings and auditions. My girlfriend, Leah, told me that there was an opportunity to be a part of the HER Energy Drink campaign and I felt that I had the personality for that so we flew out to California. Next thing I knew, I was on VH1’s Tool Academy 2.

So it REALLY was a surprise to you that you were going to be on Tool Academy?

Yes, it really was! Like I said, I’ve gone to auditions before, but this one really caught me by surprise.

How was it getting along with the other guys in the house?

It felt a luxury prison – no phones, no TV, nothing. It’s 12 guys in there and we’re all sleeping on these little cots. There was a lot of testosterone in the house so every guy wanted to be the big dog and intimidate people.

Do you feel that you deserved to be on the show?

Yeah, definitely. I’m a nice guy but I can ignite, go off quickly. I had some personal problems that were affecting our relationship. We had actually broken up right before the show started taping, but when I found out that I got casted on VH1, we both saw it as a sign that maybe this was meant to be and we worked through it.

Do you feel that you learned/gained anything from the experience?

Yeah I feel that I’ve changed a lot. My outlook on relationships and dealing with females is different. The therapy sessions were REAL. As the show progressed, the sessions got tougher and I really learned a lot from them.

Why do you think that you were really eliminated?

Honestly, even though I kind of lost my cool that episode, I felt like I was progressing but my girl was digressing. Leah is a hot head. She was having problems with some of the other girls on the show. I feel like she lost focus as the show progressed and fell out of tune with the purpose of us being there.

So how has it been between you and Leah since you left the show?

Being out in California opened up our eyes to a whole new world. I saw that we could really advance ourselves and progress together, but I think the show went to Leah’s head.

Yeah…I saw that she is now pursuing a rap career. How do you feel about that?

I really think that she knew the exposure that she could get from the show before we went. I think that the whole thing was pre-meditated for her. Before the show she wanted to go to school and get into film, now all of a sudden after the show she’s a rapper.

When you returned to Toledo after the show, did you notice a difference in the way people treated you?

Yeah, it’s funny how everyone thinks that since you’re on a reality show, you’re rich. People think that you’re mainstream so they wanna start hatin’. I get more support from other states than my own. It’s funny that when I did Apollo and 106 & Park that they couldn’t get enough of me. But since I came back from the show I haven’t been getting any support. But shouts to The Juice 107.3. They showed me love.

And that brings us back to the music, you have a nice resume.

Yeah, I performed at the Apollo in Harlem in 2006. After performing, a talent scout came to me and said she wanted me to meet Boyz to Men’s Shawn Stockton. So we met, and after I free styled for him on the spot, he told me he wanted to sign me to his label. Unfortunately, nothing ever came of it; I think he was kind of in over his head. So later I performed BET’s 106 & Park. That led to me doing advertisements and commercials for BET. I also toured with Young Joc and his label Swagg Team for a while.

What are you working on now?

I’ll be in a fashion show in LA next month, as well as performing at 740 Club. I’m currently pushing my mixtape, “106 & Parr” with the lead single “Rockin’ off my Rocker” which was produced by platinum producers, Trackzillas.

What’s next for Dre P? What can we look forward to seeing from you next?

Look forward to some surprises. I’m gonna catch people off guard. You might see me in a few movies, or even a Got Milk ad. Also look out for Ray-J's “Turn It Around” featuring me.

Is Ann Coulter a Man??

Just when I thought I'd had enough of this racist, miserable bitch, I watched her the other night on Joy Behar's show on HLN and noticed something peculiar...she has an atom's apple! I thought ONLY MEN had that? Am I wrong? No seriously though, am I the only one that wonders if maybe she's just a miserable lonely white man pissed at the world because there's a black man running our country? Her voice is a little deep...and she built just like a man, no curves.

Honestly, I'm sure she isn't a man. But until she learns to back off of my President and show the minority, college, single parent, gay, and democratic communities some respect, I'm on her ass (no homo).

But yo seriously...watch that damn thing bounce up and down in her neck while she talks...

Jeezy Responds to Jody Breeze's "Uptown" Diss

I know Jeezy wants to stick to the G code, but it was unnecessary to respond to Jody Breeze. Jody is clearly using Jeezy's name as a way to get some much needed attention.

Last month, Jody Breeze released a song and video for "Uptown," which takes a number of shots at Young Jeezy.

On the track, Jody Breeze calls Young Jeezy a fraud and questions the rapper’s alleged street ties.

"It could never be no situation, because little homie already know what it is with me," Young Jeezy stated today (October 29). "At the end of the day, I just take it for what it is. Ni***s f**ked up, ni***s talking reckless. If the ni**a wanna get signed and need some money, we’ll do that. But Jody knows what it is with me, I aint to be played with like that. I aint never disrespected the lil homie, I aint never brought his name out of my mouth of none of that bulls**t."

Simmering tension between the two almost flared last May in Atlanta, when a group of men affiliated with Young Jeezy approached Jody Breeze during a record release party for R&B singer Ciara.

The confrontation appears to have been the reason for Jody Breeze releasing "Uptown," which makes a number of disparaging comments about Young Jeezy.

"I see Jeezy across the club, I throw my hands up, I see this n***a looking at me," Jody Breeze stated in an interview. "He tried to act like he aint lookin at a n***a, like you aint just send these n***as over here. That’s some real hoe s**t."

Drake Speaks on Wayne's Jail Sentence

Drake talked to Rap-Up about the situation and how Weezy's dealing with it:

“He’s dealing with it well. Wayne’s not usually gonna open up emotionally and tell you how he’s really feeling about anything. He’s kinda more concerned about getting as much music as he possibly can, so that when he’s in there, people are still satisfied musically with Lil Wayne product, and that’s just the mind of a true businessman.

“I’ll just do what I can to keep the whole Young Money/Cash Money team going, and I just want to play my part as a team member and keep the brand strong until the boss gets home.”

Beanie Sigel Disses Jay-Z!

This isn't an average diss, this is an I'm shitting on your face and name diss! Beanie Sigel was not playin', he WENT IN.

Interview: Big Boss E (Houston, TX)

Houston has bred some of the best contributors to hip hop. Legendary artists like UGK and Scarface set the bar for southern hip hop, sending a message that real MCs live in the south. Following them were H-town all-stars Slim Thug, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, and Chamillionaire. Let’s not forget the contributions from artists like Trae, Lil Flip, Z-Ro, and my personal favorite, Lil Keke gave in building the underground scene. It’s quite obvious that Houston owns a giant piece of the evolutional hip hop pie, and their stock continues to climb with their newest addition. Big Boss E is the leader of the new class of Houston hip hop and he’s setting new trends. His fast-talking, smooth and original style will show and prove what it means to have natural swag.

So when did you start rapping?

I started when I was 15 years old. I had a group called Dime Squad, all people I grew up with.

What inspired you to start rapping?

I’ve always loved music. I was born in Brooklyn so I grew up listening to Wu Tang and other New York artists. But I’m southern bred so I got the best of both hip hop worlds.

Who are your musical influences?

Pimp C, Snoop Dogg, Notorious BIG, and Jay-Z. Everybody that makes that good music that got swag to it.

Are there any particular Houston artists that inspire you, or that you admire?

Yeah - Slim Thug, Bun B, Scarface, Pimp C. I watched Slim Thug’s grind for a long time. I would see him in the streets and in the clubs always grindin’ promoting himself and I respected that.

What’s your opinion on the current Houston hip hop scene?

We’re just stuck in tradition. They’re used to just one style, and I’m trying to bring something different, a new delivery. H-town is a great place and I’m ready to bring the new age swag.

What will you contribute to Houston’s music scene?

New age swag. It’s flashy and flamboyant, but it’s real. I’m a hustler and I promote hard work. I want everyone to see Houston in a different light. It’s a whole new time around here.

What would be your dream collaboration?

Not so much any artists, but on the production side, DJ Paul. A producer is going to help take you another level more so than an artist. I’ve always been a fan of his production so that would be a dream collab.

Tell me about your mixtape. Any artists or producers featured that you’d like to mention?

The mixtape is called Grape Jelly Hoe and it’s hosted by The Empire. I’m bringing a new style and originality, along with the new age swag. I got a song on there called “Datz Me” featuring Ricki Li; he represents that new age swag. J. Kut did most of the production. He did Licky Licky and Role Call as well. He’s very serious about his craft and he’s contributing to the new age swag.

What is Grape Jelly Hoe? How did you come up with that?

It’s a way of life! Instead of me saying I wanna be successful, I say I want that jelly! I grind for that jelly. It’s like everything mixed in a pot of gumbo. It’s that lifestyle, it’s about swag.

Big Boss E’s “Grape Jelly Hoe” mixtape, hosted by The Empire coming in 2010.

Artist Spotlight - Ronnie Run (NC)

This gentleman has an impressive resume. Take notice!

Born and raised in a small town of Winterville, North Carolina Ronnie Run is a well-known rapper with a lot of streets credit. “I want to put North Carolina on the map and show people that there is talent around the state.” Growing up around the Pitt County area was just plain and real for Ronnie. “Where I’m from was nothing different from your New York or LA. Living in the South; the pace is slow and the hard work is there.” Starting out as a DJ; Ronnie knew or thought this was something he wanted to do. “After the Dj thing fell through; “I had a backup plan and it was rapping.” Ronnie’s influences are God, my daughter Jocelyn, my family, The Sugar Hill Gang, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, 2Pac, Notorious BIG, Rakim, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, KRS-One, LL Cool J, Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Jay-Z and the list goes on and on. “I remember the first time I heard “Rapper’s Delight” by the Sugar Hill Gang and I knew from that point; rapping was something I wanted to do.” It was during a school test when Ronnie wrote his 1st rap song. After that I called my cousin Big Buji and he told me that he was putting beats together so we got in the studio and did my first EP "Lyrical Masta;" it became a street classic. Two of those songs hit the radio airwaves "Ghetto Stress FT. Black Chyna” and “North Kack for Real.” With the success of these songs, I thought it was time for me to try a new producer. I kept writing and one day while listening to a mix tape I called the producer off the CD, and the rest is history. ” I called the producer from Sick Man Productions, we talked and within two weeks I was recording my first song;”Back 4 Tha’ Third Time”. The title track, “4 tha’ Club,” debuted on the radio and quickly caught buzz around town as well as in other states outside of North Carolina. After the song appeared on the radio; Ronnie thought it would be a good idea to shoot a video for the song. “I got with my homeboy John RoRech and we ask Shawn (the owner of Club Dynasty) if it was ok to shoot the video there and he said it was cool.” About two months later I submitted the video to BET late night show “Uncut” and within a week the video was being shown before a nationwide audience. “I thought it was a blessing and an honor to be seen and heard on a level like that.” Soon after that; Ronnie thought it was time to hit the studio again and keep the street flooded with some more hits. “I had to build up my fan base so that when I drop the sampler CD “Cleanin’ Houze”; the fans would love what they heard. ” There was one joint the fans and the DJ’s were feeling and that was “Bump Dis’ (Carolina Ridin’). “I thought it was time to show the world how the Carolinas get down and let them know what we were all about.” Now Ronnie Run is about to drop his mix tape “Hot Joints Vol. 1” with one track making noise as we speak. You can’t go wrong with “I Remember,” which is making some crazy noise as we speak! Ronnie is continuing to network and recording, waiting to get a break. “I am bringing a whole lot to the table as a artist and I am willing to give 200% if needed”.

Orlando Magic Star JJ Redick Releasing a Rap Album

L...O...L. Lemme stop, its only right to give a fair chance right? Ok, so he says he’s part of a “rap super group” that will release a new single before the end of the year titled “Waste Management.”

“We’re working on a rap CD,” Redick said. “We actually haven’t come up with a name from the group, we’re throwing around some ideas right now. We’re not taking ourselves to seriously. We have some influences, and when you hear our sound eventually, you’ll pick up right away. We’re hoping the single drops before the new year, but we have a pretty full time job, so we don’t have a whole lot of time to work on a rap album right now.”

See, that's the problem. He's not even taking it seriously. Ugh, next.

Teyana Taylor Says She's Still a Virgin

In an exclusive interview with Egypt, Teyana addresses the rumors of her dating Chris Brown and Soulja Boy, and her sexuality. She also states that she's still a virgin...

"Chris is my brother. I’ve always said that. People say a lot of things about me and I’m like I’m only 18. Really??? Is it that serious? People have said I was gay and all type of stuff."

"How can I be gay if I’m still a virgin? The one thing people can never say is that I’m a hoe. I have a purity ring. The only time you get in trouble is if you attempt to do something. If your laying up on a boy then something is going to happen. So I just keep my legs closed until I am ready for that. I can’t have a boyfriend because the only thing they want to do is have sex. I don’t want no fingers up there, no penis, nothing!!! Uh uh (shaking her head no)."

Well you go girl. That's the best decision you can make, especially in this industry.

Former Celtics Star Antoine Walker BROKE AND IN DEBT

In 12 years, Antoine Walker made more than $110 million playing professional basketball moderately well. Take away taxes, throw in some adidas endorsement money and a "NBA Live 99" cover, and he's left with, what, $60-to-65 million?

So whats the problem?? For some reason during the last several months, the once multi-millionaire athlete has been pursued by multiple financial institutions for unpaid debts. According to The Boston Globe, the former Celtics star owes more than $4 million to his creditors and is facing felony check fraud charges in Las Vegas. All of this at the age of 33. FELONY CHECK FRAUD CHARGES???

Artist Spotlight - Mary Liz (SC)

Mary Liz is a multi-talented singer out of South Carolina that will soon be making waves. Pay attention! Don't sleep now and try to sweat her when she blows up! To get a preview of whats to come, her mixtape, "The Princess is Here" hosted by DJ Frosty will be available tomorrow (Oct. 28). Follow her on Twitter (@itsmaryliz) for details!

Mary Elizabeth McDonald, more commonly known as MaryLiz, is a 19-year-old go getter with a passion for music and drive that is out of this world. She was fittingly named The Princess after being introduced numerous times as the Princess of R&B at her concerts and throughout her university by her supporters and dedicated fans. So here she stands as MaryLiz, The Princess. Born and raised in Irmo, SC on April 26, 1990, she began singing at the age of 3. Always a creative child, she was writing songs and performing at 7, picked up the Viola at 9, and became a self-taught pianist at age 13.

As if this is not enough to prove her natural, God-given talent, she started recording professionally at 14 and has been doing it ever since. Always determined to chase after her dreams, MaryLiz fully dedicated herself to pursuing a musical career in her freshman year of highschool, but bound by high-school commitments, she was never able to put her plan into motion until graduating Spring 2008.

November 29, 2007 marked the day that will forever be tattooed on the young musician’s heart; this is the day her father, and best friend none-the-less, was killed by lung cancer. In his last words to MaryLiz in his self-written obituary he encouraged her to get to the top. This was the extra push for her to take a blind leap of faith into the music industry and trust the musicianship she was blessed with to find her ultimate success.

Despite the nay-sayers and negative people that have devoted themselves to bringing her down, MaryLiz has set full sprint toward her dreams, going against the grain and all odds to make a name for herself and for all her supporters that believe in her.

Presently, MaryLiz is enrolled at the University of South Carolina taking up Music and Business Marketing while continuing to pursue her music career. At age 19 she has solidified herself as MaryLiz The Princess: Singer/Songwriter/Pianist/Violist/Producer – And this is only the beginning.

Jamie Foxx Exposes Plies

Finally, some truth! Jamie said while he and Plies were on set shooting their video, 30 "real niggas" showed up on set and everybody disappeared, including all security...and Plies. LOL! He said Plies was hiding in the bathroom scared shitless.

What happened to all of that goonery? I thought Plies aka Algernod was the goon of all goons?

Violence Erupts at Akon Concert; Akon Jumps In!

Akon: "I don't know if ya'll know how hard it was to get here. It took me almost two years for Australia to let me back in the country and I'm not gonna let them fuck up our concert tonight!"

LOL! I know that's right Akon! He was gonna make sure that they didn't ban his black ass again, so after a huge fight erupted in the crowd between two rival gangs, Akon jumped in himself to try and stop the fight.

NEW VIDEO: Chris Brown feat. Lil Wayne "I Can Transform Ya"

I like it, very futuristic and creative. I see Chris Breezy hasn't lost his touch.

Rhianna's "Rated R" Album Cover

I think its an appropriate reflection of her rebellious image as of late. Its hot though, definitely looking forward to hearing the music. Will she be dissing Chris? Maybe talking about missing him the way he's obviously been missing her? Will she talk about her bisexual love affairs? I guess we shall see come November 23rd!

Chris Brown Is Missing Him Some RiRi!

Awww...well I guess next time you'll learn to keep ya hands to ya self.

Chris Brown took to his Twitter account (@MechanicalDummy) to express his emotions, and missing Rihanna. He posted this video a fan made in dedication of the way they were.

I know Rihanna's probably saying to herself "ugh, cry me a fuckin river Chris".

MJ's Movie "This is It": Is That Him or a Body Double?

Knowing Michael's weak state at the time "This Is It" and all of his rehearsals, there are reports that the producers were using body doubles and audio tapes to make the King of Pop look healthier. At the time of filming, it was reported that MJ couldn't even hardly walk, and that his voice was shot. But magically in the film, he looks strong and his voice sounds better than ever. I hope its really him, but I'm starting to doubt it after hearing this.

Global Grind Exposes MediaTakeOut!

Its about time someone publicly called out MediaTakeOut for the frauds that they are! I think we all as bloggers try to bite our tongues because we don't wanna give them any undeserved exposure. But they've been posting fake, inconsistent, and inaccurate stories since DAY ONE. I salute Global Grind for putting them on blast! Its time for us to ban together and get these phonies outta here! That goes for you too WorldStarHipHop!!

From GlobalGrind.com:

Over at GlobalGrind.com we got wind of a brewing story that was posted by Mediatakeout. The thumbnail picture that they used seemed to hold some validity as three of our personal favorite women in the industry were free balling (panty-less), at Kim Kardashians 29th Birthday Party at Tao in Las Vegas.
My heart sank as I clicked the story, hoping that I would not see the "PIKACHUS" that belonged to Kim Kardashian, Lala Vazquez, and Ciara. And then the story loaded and I felt like a certified foolio, once again I had been deceived by the inaccurate and malicious story that was just plain foolish. Clearly all three women had on panties and there was proof that they had them on. Proof that was provided by Mediatakeout.

The real pictures proved to be innocent and a little creepy that some perv was taking crotch pics!! TO ALL THE LADIES: WE ARE NOW ON CROTCH WATCH. PROTECT YOUR "PIKACHUS" WHILE CLUBBING...

So what we have decided to do was call the faux media company out.

Mediatakeout you are the true Whores and your stories are absurd, inconsistent, and always lack journalistic integrity, therefore we are now exposing you…

Lil Wayne Pleads Guilty to Gun Charges; Gets 1 Yr in Prison

I'm going to keep my personal opinions to myself on this one, because its always disheartening to see a rapper go to jail. But I will say this - these rappers need to learn that they are not above the law. You break the law, you gotta serve consequences just like the rest of us normal people. Moving on...

Lil Wayne plead guilty today (Oct 22) to attempted weapon possession in New York. Wayne was busted on July 22, 2007 in NYC after police pulled over his tour bus because they allegedly smelled pot, but we all know the REAL reason they pulled him over. Cops say when an officer approached the bus, Wayne tossed a Louis Vuitton bag with a gun inside.

Wayne is expecting to get 1-year behind bars, but unfortunately his problems don't stop there. Weezy also still faces felony drug possession and weapons charges in Arizona after cops found 105 grams of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine, 41 grams of ecstasy, various drug paraphernalia and a handgun on his tour bus during a traffic stop in Yuma County back in 2008.

Wayne pled not guilty to those charges -- his trial is set for March of 2010.

OJ Da Juiceman Gets Booed Off Stage!!

OJ got his ass booed off stage at BB Kings in New York. I don't know who's bright idea it was to have him perform in NY anyway. They don't play that in NY, if you're rap skills are weak they don't support you.

Cory Gunz Gets His Own Reality Show

MTV is giving Cory Gunz, son of NY rapper Peter Gunz, his own reality show titled "Son of a Gun". Hehe, that's cute. The show will be directed by Nick Cannon and its centered around Cory building his career as a rapper. Here's a sneak peek:

So I think by now we've all learned our lesson in believing that any of these VH1 reality shows are real. Everyone comes on to these shows with an agenda to gain exposure. But hey, I'm not hatin' on the hustle.

I don't know if any of you watch VH1's Tool Academy 2, but there was a lite-brite guy on there by the name of Dre P, who was recently eliminated. As I watched him, I realized he looked very familiar. Then it dawned on me that I saw him perform on stage about 3 years ago. You wouldn't think from his pretty boy looks that he'd be such a "gutta" rapper but as we all know, looks can be deceiving.

Anyway, here's one of his songs, tell me what ya'll think. Oh and side note: when he was eliminated he and his girlfriend left together, but I'm assuming they're no longer together because he has a little thing going on with Real Chance of Love 2's Hot Wings...mmm hmm...

A.J. Jewell's Alleged Murderer Released on Bond

Frederick Richardson, the suspect in the beating death of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” personality Ashley “A.J.” Jewell, was released on bond early Tuesday (10/20). Richardson left the Fulton Conty Jail after Magistrate Judge Karen Woodson set bond at $10,000. Richardson will not return to court until he’s indicted.

I have lost a lot of faith in the court systems lately. I honestly don't think they know what the definition of justice is anymore. Let's just hope he doesn't stay out.

Shyne to be Deported to Belize

Well we've been hearing that there was a possibility that Shyne was going to be deported to Belize, and now its confirmed. Hot 97's Angie Martinez confirmed it while having a conversation with the rapper (who's still in prison):

“Shyne is one of the strongest people I know and he’s handling this situation just as I’d expect him to. It must be frustrating for all of his friends and family. "He served his time, and keeps getting all these different dates and conflicting information. But he’s a soldier, he’s dealing with it.”

That sucks. I still don't understand why he has to be deported, especially now.

Nicki Minaj, OJ Da Juiceman, Waka Flocka on BET's The Deal

OK, so I was really trying to be a Nicki Minaj fan but she blew it for me. Can't do it. That robotic, slightly imitated Lil Wayne flow of hers is not the business.

Then OJ "freestyles"...*sigh*. Next...

Waka Flocka was the most enjoyable. I do kinda like him, but I didn't appreciate him calling Shaq washed up!! (LOL)

Somebody wanna explain to me why The Deal is on at 3am anyway? Damn they can't give a rap show a primetime slot? They show the same movies over and over during those hours. They need to give it a rest and bring The Deal up a few notches.

Album Review: Jus Nice "Karma"

Jus Nice is a much needed breath of fresh air to hip hop. This South Carolina bred artist delivers raw lyrical talent, added with a smooth element. Finding your own identity in music these days seems to be a struggle for many artists, but not Jus Nice. "Karma" is an example of how to create quality music without giving into the pressures of making "bubblegum" music to please your audience.

Every song on the album has great production with smooth melodies and drum patterns. I definitely give the production an A. "Karma" begins with one of my faves, "Encore". The drums are kickin' while the strings assist Jus in expressing his passion. Other honorable mentions include, "Explore", "Insecure", and "Living the Life" (featuring Coco Leopard). There's honestly not one track on the album I disliked, but I must say my personal favorite is the title track, "Karma". Once again, the production on the track was grade A and Jus Nice does something that many artists fail to do - tell a story.

I strongly suggest supporting this young man. I predict that he's gonna be one of those artists that sneaks up on the game and ends a few careers. The talent that Jus Nice possesses cannot be denied. Not only has Jus managed to separate himself from the other upcoming rappers, but he's surpassing them with his ability to tell stories with smooth lyrics and hard punchlines. Download "Karma" right now!!

*BRINGING OUT THE HORNS* The wait is over!! Ri-Ri's highly anticipated album will arrive next month, in the mean time, check out her new single, "Russian Roulette" along with her promotional video for her upcoming album, "Rated R".

Uncle Russ Pays Tribute to Jay-Z

Hmmm, wondering why he didn't do this at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors, but I guess better late than never right? This is from his Global Grind blog:

Looking back at his amazing career, it suddenly dawned on me, that in a hundred years from now, we’re gonna be talking about Jay-Z. When we think of hip-hop, we will think of Jay. But what is even more important than his album sales, is his affect on American popular culture. Let us not forget that all the other “kings” didn’t come from the culture that created the music that they played. Hip-hop is the first cultural phenomenon represented by a face in the community where the culture came from. This wasn’t possible for rock n’ roll or blues or jazz…it was Elvis and Mick Jagger and Benny Goodman who were always considered the best. But, now the king of rap is confirmed black. And that means a lot.

Lisa Raye Puts Rocsi On Blast

Although Lisa Raye has been advised by her lawyer not to go into detail about Rocsi's involvement with her ex-husband while they were still married, she tells Big Boi "there's a reason she's pictured in my house and I didn't invite her."

Album Review: Ed E Ruger "Lights Out"

It looks like North Carolina has struck gold again by birthing Ed E Ruger! This Greensboro native possesses top-notch lyrical talent along with an impeccable work ethic. He is helping set a new standard, and building a portrait for North Carolina hip hop through his latest body of work, “Lights Out”, the album.

The album’s intro track, “Iconoclast Intro” sets the tone of what to expect, and immediately crushes any stereotype that may have been placed on him or North Carolina’s culture. DJ Phillie Phresh lends his contributions to the intro and throughout the disc with mixing and scratching, giving it that classic hip-hop touch that’s always needed.

“Lights Out” contains several buzz worthy hits, including “That’s My Shit” (featuring Metaphor the Great), “Switch It Up” (featuring Stitchy C), and Smoke Some Weed. While Ed E Ruger manages to showcase his lyrical capabilities consistently throughout the entire mixtape, “Merciless” (featuring Bekay and Ty Bru) and “Do It For the Rush” (featuring Sean Boog and Wax) were prime examples of why he deserves to be called an MC, instead of just a rapper.

My personal favorite was “I Hate Everybody”. When I first saw the title, I assumed it would be a typical rant coming from another rapper mad at the world because he’s not getting the attention he wants. But to my surprise, Ed gave it a comical theme, proving that he’s a well-rounded artist not afraid to poke fun, even at himself.

Overall I was impressed with “Lights Out”. I am happy that Ed E Ruger is here to contribute to not just North Carolina hip-hop, but music in general. It is always refreshing to come across an artist with diversity and originality, because those two components are so difficult to come by these days. Please support this rising star!

Lil Wayne Leaks Songs In Preparation for New Album

Lil Wayne's camp leaked several new songs over the weekend. Now ya'll know, usually when an artist starts leaking new songs its because they have a project coming...well Weezy's "No Ceilings" album is due to drop before the year is over. I wonder if he'll go platinum in one week this time? Probably not, he managed to piss a lot of people off since The Carter 3. But, the Young Money/Cash Money reign will continue considering Young Money, Birdman, Drake, and Mack Maine will all be dropping one after another.

Let the hating begin. (myself included! hehe)

About damn time! What the hell was Diddy holding on to anyway? Its not like it would've been worth keeping him! Come on, do ya'll really think this ninja's gonna come back from the pulpit and go platinum?

Mase was extra pumped in the video though, LOL. I really am happy for him. I know being held in the super grip by Diddy was nerve wrecking.

Beyonce Using Ghostwriters?

I think we pretty much already knew this, seeing that there's been several stories in the past exposing her as a songwriting fraud. Plus ya'll know this is all really her dad's doing. I said it from the very beginning - Mathew Knowles is the new Joe Jackson (minus the abuse). He's a money hungry snake in the grass trying to make Beyonce something she's not. Anywho, there's been a letter sent out to several of us bloggers from a woman (who would like to be unidentified) claiming that she was one of many writers offered to ghost-write songs for Beyonce in exchange for a hefty payoff.

A lot of these artists claim to be songwriters, but don’t always write a thing. Some, like Beyonce, serve as vocal arrangements, which points to part of the song’s composition, and thus, receive a songwriting and production credit. Others, like Beyonce, can demand credit based on their name alone. I myself have heard of new song writers looking for placement with Beyonce’s last album being told Beyonce demands a certain amount of publishing upfront (and it’s substantial) or they could “be paid handsomely” to politely remove their name from the song altogether. Fact is, Beyonce didn’t write one song on “I Am…Sasha Fierce.” Beyonce and her team have bought the rights from the songwriters and then Beyonce took credit for it. I have no idea about previous albums but it’s obvious that Beyonce never had a pen in her hand, which is a shame because Beyonce claims something she isn’t.

Louisiana Denies Interracial Couple a Marriage License

A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have. Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.

Neither Bardwell nor the couple immediately returned phone calls from The Associated Press. But Bardwell told the Daily Star of Hammond that he was not a racist.

Bardwell said he has discussed the topic with blacks and whites, along with witnessing some interracial marriages. He came to the conclusion that most of black society does not readily accept offspring of such relationships, and neither does white society, he said.
"I don't do interracial marriages because I don't want to put children in a situation they didn't bring on themselves," Bardwell said. "In my heart, I feel the children will later suffer." (Associated Press)

Stop lying to yourself. Just admit you denied them a marriage license because you don't want to chance granting them the opportunity to create another Obama. Bastard.

Balloon Boy Snitches on His Parents: "It Was for Show"

I know you all are well aware of who I'm referring to, since it was the biggest story yesterday so there's no need to explain. So the little boy, Falcon Henne was hiding in a box in the garage the whole time, but when asked why he didn't respond when they were calling his name, he responded "it was for show". His parents looked frozen when he said that, and if that's the case, someone needs to get locked up.

VICTORY!! Rush Limbaugh Dropped From Group Seeking to Buy Rams

Just another example of good defeating evil. The devil never wins, sorry Rush, you're just another one of Satan's losers.

RadarOnline:

Rush Limbaugh was dropped from the list of a group hoping to purchase the St. Louis Rams football team Wednesday due to fears the polarizing right wing media pundit would have jeopardized the group's chances of acquiring the struggling team.

Dave Checketts, the chairman of hockey's St. Louis Blues and a member of the group, issued a statement Wednesday making Limbaugh's ouster official.

"It has become clear that his involvement in our group has become a complication and a distraction to our intentions, endangering our bid to keep the team in St. Louis," Checketts said. "As such, we have decided to move forward without him and hope it will eventually lead us to a successful conclusion."

"Leona was the victim of an unprovoked attack this afternoon at her book signing. The police were called immediately and medical attention has been sought. Leona is understandably shaken and apologizes to the fans she was unable to meet and complete signings."

Lisa Raye Addresses the Al Sharpton Rumors

She says she was seeking support from him after her bitter divorce...she also discusses her finances and disrespectful females.

Al Sharpton Calls on NFL to Block Rush Limbaugh from Buying the Rams

I can't believe I'm about to say this: I absolutely agree with Al on this one. Al Sharpton wrote a letter to the NFL commissioner urging him to block Limbaugh from buying the St Louis Rams. Why you ask?

Sharpton argued that Limbaugh has been “anti-NFL” in his comments about several of the league’s players, specifically naming Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb. Limbaugh sparked controversy several years ago by contending that the media want McNabb to succeed simply because he is black.

In addition, Sharpton wrote that Limbaugh’s “recent statement — that the NFL was beginning to look like a fight between the Crips and the Bloods without the weapons — was disturbing.”

Exactly. Al call if you need me to march.

Mike Vick Set to Get His Own Reality-Doc Show on BET

BET's giving Michael Vick the chance to publicly redeem himself after being convicted of coordinating dog fights and animal cruelty. The NFL great will star in an eight part documentary-style reality show airing early next year on the network. The show titled The Michael Vick Project, will follow the dogfighting ringmaster as he joins up with the Philadelphia Eagles, rebuilds relationships with his fiancée and kids and attempts to make amends—presumably of both the court-ordered and PR-advised variety for his 2007 arrest.

"I just want people to really get to know me as an individual," he told the paper. "What I want to do is change the perception of me. I am a human being. I've made some mistakes in the past, and I wish it had never happened. But it's not about how you fall, but about how you pick yourself up."

Usher Called the Cops on Tameka!

Man this broad is crazy! Usher wasn't playin' when he was talking about her in Papers. Here's the official report:

Johns Creek cops were called to the singer’s Country Club of the South home on Sept. 11, following a custody dispute with Foster Raymond. Usher claimed someone “scratched his 2007 GMC Yukon down the driver’s side” one day after he had a custody argument with Foster Raymond. In the report, Usher alleges the damage “may be in relation” to the argument.

Johns Creek cops note that the vehicle parked on Usher’s property is actually registered to Foster Raymond. Country Club of the South security guards posted at the entrance of the ritzy development told police there was no log record of Foster Raymond entering the complex. But surveillance video was not immediately available.

Brian McKnight Owes Over $257,000 to the IRS

I guess we can add Brian McKnight to the growing list of celebs getting caught not paying their taxes. Public records show the IRS filing a $257,345 lien against him in the New York Registrar's office.

I'm not really understanding why he's not paying taxes, I know his ass ain't broke. All of those hits he wrote? Naw man, I know those royalty checks come in hefty every rip. So what's the excuse?

Usher - Papers

Ok ok! I know I'm late with this one, but better late than never right? Anywho, the song is supreme DOPENESS, Zaytoven showed his ass on this track. Its quite obvious the song was inspired by his soon to be ex-wife Tameka Foster. And while we're speaking of Usher...

I hear he's shacking up with his new boo already...damn nucca, you couldn't at least wait until the divorce was final??

Footage of Beyonce Trying to Stop Lil Mama's VMA Crasher

Frankie Breaks Down Crying At the BET Hip Hop Awards

When asked about her finances, Frankie starts talking about how much she appreciated all that Keyshia Cole has done for her, and then breaks down in tears - to the point where she had to be escorted off the red carpet. Not sure what causesd the emotional break down, but I'm pretty sure it was the same reason why her eyes were bloodshot red...

Soulja Boy Arrested

SMH...Soulja Boy was arrested in Georgia on Wednesday (Oct 7) when officers responded to a call that there were over 40 people loitering around an abandoned warehouse.

“There were approximately 40 people gathered behind the dark house," Sergeant Rene Swanson detailed in her police report. "Half of the people fled the area as the arriving officer called for back-up.”

Soulja Boy was one of the people who fled the scene, but that didn't stop the cops from searching through vehicles. In a white Lexus, they found a 9MM handgun who the cops say is tied to Soulja Boy. Upon his return, the rapper gave a statement explaining that his entourage was gathered at the home for a video shoot. Because of the gun, he was still arrested on obstruction charges.

“A white Land Rover at the scene was identified as belonging to Deandre Way, who had fled the scene," Swanson stated. "He returned a short time later, and [was] arrested for obstruction."

Soulja Boy was released yesterday (October 8) on a $550 bond, and is due back in court next week. I hope his little ass learned a lesson. It could've been way worse and had it been, he'd a went to jail for a minute. Can you see Soulja Boy serving time?! Can we say, raped to the white meat?
